REA VAYA is expected to provide a number of benefits for the City of Johannesburg and its residents.

In the short term, it will establish a safe, secure public transport system that offers efficient, reliable and frequent bus services at an affordable price. Rea Vaya will also ensure there is an accessible public transport system for the disabled, the elderly and people with children.

In addition, it will enhance the urban environment, reducing road congestion, energy consumption and vehicle emissions.

It will also allow for the recapitalisation of the public transport fleet.

The medium term benefits will promote social inclusion, help contain urban sprawl and promote densification. A large number of jobs will also be created.

In the long term, the Rea Vaya project will encourage economic development in and around the areas of operation and will lead to a significant reduction in pollution.

In essence, Rea Vaya will be a world-class public transport system.
